If you’re wondering what you just watched on this week’s insane episode of Wynonna Earp you’re not alone! Thanks to the introduction of yet another sociopathic villain, Constance Clootie (Rayisa Kondracki), aka the Stone Witch, Wynonna’s world got a whole lot more complicated. Another person clearly taken aback by Constance was Doc, who proved once again to Wynonna how bad he’s willing to be in order to get what he wants. That didn’t stop Wynonna from giving in to her attraction to the gunslinger though, and we’ll surely be dealing with the fallout of their hookup in next week’s episode.

Thankfully, just as she does every week, Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras is here to go over everything that went down in “Diggin’ Up Bones,” written by Shelley Scarrow. She’ll give us a few hints as to Constance and Bobo’s relationship, why Constance is afraid of Doc and why Bobo rocks that fur coat so well! The TV Junkies: Let’s just start with the major character we met this week, Constance Clootie. What can you tell us about her arrangement with Bobo and as a side note, what was in the heel of her shoe?

Emily Andras: I think it was his own blood, she impaled him so hard that he was basically sucking his own blood off the end of the shoe. That’s an act you don’t see a lot on Downton Abbey and that’s the kind of show we’re going for here. [laughs]

I would say Bobo and Constance’s arrangement is fascinating. Publicly she seems to be his lawyer–which is hilarious to think about the leader of the demon revenants needing a lawyer–but privately they have some sort of mutual assured destruction guaranteed. They both seem to have something that the other one wants. What I love about their relationship is that in Episode 5 you really see this shift in power dynamics–at first it seems like the Stone Witch, Constance Clootie, has the upper hand, and by the end it seems that Bobo has the upper hand. They definitely have a pretty f-ed up love/hate relationship, as only two supernatural sociopaths can.

TTVJ: Doc is driven by his vengeance for the Stone Witch, yet in a twist it turns out she’s scared of him. What hints can you give us as to why that is?

EA: I think she was pretty damned surprised to see him in the police station, out of the bottom of the well. I think when you give someone immortality and then stick them at the bottom of a well you’re hoping you don’t have to see them again. So just the fact that he’s walking amongst us, he’s in the same world as she is where she clearly needs something, and he may or may not be aligned with the Earp heir–those are all reasons to give her alarm, but he may know some secrets about her too. He may know who she is and what makes her tick and what her vulnerabilities are. So I’d be nervous if I were her, although she did seem to get the one up on him.

TTVJ: We saw Dolls actually sticking up for Wynonna and her place on the team.

EA: I know! She wasn’t there to see it though. She wasn’t there to see it! That’s so Dolls. I think deep down he knows the very thing that makes her infuriating is also the thing that is going to make her so successful.

TTVJ: So he’s not just putting up with her because she’s the heir and has the Peacemaker, but he also values her talents?

EA: I’d say it’s a slow burn, but I would say it certainly appeared that way. He kind of put himself in jeopardy with Judge Cryderman, who seems to have a line to Dolls’ bosses, just to stick up for her. Yea, I would say he’s melting a little bit as far as his feelings for Wynonna and yea, I think he values her.

TTVJ: Doc and Wynonna slept together in this episode. Is that going to change their relationship moving forward or is it just something that happened and won’t really change anything?

EA: I would say it’s probably a pretty big deal. What I love about it is that those two are just broken people who are just attracted to each other like magnets. But he is very old and was the best friend of her great great grandfather, and he’s completely untrustworthy–he basically said to her ‘I will do whatever it takes. I will destroy this entire world to get what I want.’ I think it’s both electric and the sexiest thing ever, and the WORST idea in the entire world. That’s what I like about it, is that they sense something in each other, something bad and rotten and delicious and they are drawn to each other. It feels like fate to me, but yes I think it’ll have repercussions going forward and you’ll just have to see what the fallout is.

TTVJ: Wynonna figures out in this episode that she can’t be solely driven by revenge and that a part of her needs peace. Is peace really possible in a town like Purgatory?

EA: Well I don’t know, that’s a really great question. When you’re job is to shoot people in the face and send them back to Hell that’s going to be an ongoing question for Wynonna. The irony is that the gun is called Peacemaker, but all it does is kill demons. It’s interesting that Wynonna has decided that she needs some sort of code, some sort of rules to protect her own sanity and who she is, but I would say that intention is going to be challenged again and again and again on our show.

TTVJ: I liked seeing that not all of the revenants are purely evil.

EA: I think that’s the reality right? Not every criminal is a serial killer, so there’s something to be said for Wynonna not being the only one suffering from this curse, and I think that’s an interesting theme and idea that we’ve set up.

TTVJ: The confrontation between Waverly and Bobo went much better than I expected, with Waverly holding her ground. Will we maybe see him try to exploit her again in the future?

EA: Stay tuned. I absolutely love that scene and it was really unexpected. I just love that Waverly–the person on the team who has no superpowers–is so brave and so principled that she forced herself to go and confront her own demon, literally. I’m more interested in the idea that Bobo still seems to have a soft spot for Waverly, and speaks about her in a way that is fond. That being said he is an absolute monster. The push/pull of their relationship is definitely something to keep an eye on.

But how about Bobo’s superpowers? Are we going to talk about that? So he’s obviously telekinetic and I thought it was a good surprise that he snatched Wynonna’s gun right out of his hand. That’s going to be a pretty big challenge going forward as far as catching this guy.

TTVJ: At first I thought the gun wasn’t burning his hand, but obviously that wasn’t the case.

EA: Oh, it definitely did but he’s just so insane that he’ll weather the pain because he’s the toughest of the tough. It just proves again that maybe it won’t be that easy for Wynonna to get rid of this guy.

TTVJ: But how did he keep that fur coat on when the precinct was supposedly so hot?

EA: Because he’s a demon that’s dedicated to fashion above everything else. He’s the Anna Wintour of demons! Because he’s fashion first and he’s Bobo Del Rey and he knows what works for him. I like that he’s committed. He’s has hundreds of years to figure out what works for him fashion-wise so he’s going classic wool fur coat. I like that.

TTVJ: What can you preview from Episode 6?

EA: We’re going to see some of the fallout from Doc and Wynonna’s hot and sexy rendezvous. We’re going to see Waverly gain a new role and maybe make some decisions about her romantic life, and we are going to learn some really, really unexpected secrets about Agent Dolls. We also encounter some pretty grisly revenants–it’s pretty good horror movie stuff.
