Wait a minute! Did that really just happen? It can’t be! Can it? We are betting that more than a few fans were left with their jaws on the floor after this week’s episode of Wynonna Earp that revealed Wynonna and Waverly’s sister Willa may not be so dead after all. The last few minutes of “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” written by Brendan Yorke and directed by Peter Stebbings, saw the return of the eldest Earp sister as she was able to pick up and fire Peacemaker to take down the evil revenant Lou (Gord Rand).

Elsewhere Doc (Tim Rozon) took off in the Stone Witch’s pink car to places unknown and Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and Dolls (Shamier Anderson) barely survived their adventure in the woods. Is Doc really gone? Just how cold were those scenes to shoot? Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras is back for her weekly post-episode discussion to talk about that major Willa (Natalie Krill) reveal, WayHaught and where Doc may be headed now.

The TV Junkies: So let’s start off with my initial reaction to the episode which was “Willaaaaaaaaa!”

Emily Andras: Yea exactly. Willa! Did you drop your beer like Gus?

TTVJ: I did not have beer but I am sure I would have.

EA: That’s fine. You would’ve dropped it. That’s all I want to know.

TTVJ: I did love that Gus confirmed to us that it was Willa and we didn’t have to wait another week to know for sure.

EA: Yes, although I will say we still have to go through the tests with everything. This is just Gus’ word and we’ve seen a lot of weird things in Purgatory. We do have to make sure it’s her, but Gus seems pretty damn sure.

TTVJ: What does Willa being back now mean? Seeing as she didn’t seem to recognize Wynonna or Waverly how are they going to deal with her?

EA: Oh my god it’s going to be chaos! They have so many steps to go through. First they have to confirm it’s actually Willa. She definitely doesn’t seem to remember who she is or who the hell any of these weirdos are. They have to figure out where she’s been and what happened to her. There’s a lot of guilt they have to deal with because they just assumed she was dead for so many years. For Wynonna it’s just another person she disappointed on some level when she stopped looking for her.

On top of that let’s face it, Willa was trained to be the heir. What does that mean for the Earp legacy and for Peacemaker? That was one of the shocking moments of the episode where we saw Willa pick up the gun and take out Lou. It worked, sent him to hell, glowed and did its business. The gun certainly seems to think Willa is the heir, or another heir. Is it possible to have two Earp heirs? Wouldn’t that be interesting.

TTVJ: In another somewhat surprising move Doc left town, almost unnoticed. He can’t really be gone, right? If so, I may be as heartbroken as Waverly about it.

EA: Well stay tuned. Tim Rozon is amazing but he’s a busy actor and has a lot of stuff to do.

TTVJ: You’re so cruel.

EA: So cruel. He’s in demand. You’re not the only one that loves him, Bridge. Everybody wants a piece of Tim Rozon. So he had to drive onto the lot of another show maybe. [laughs]

TTVJ: We know Waverly is a smart one and it’s starting to seem like she was right that Doc truly does love Wynonna. But what about the flip side, how does Wynonna feel about Doc?

EA: That’s a really good question. Waverly is in kind of a honeymoon stage right now and I’d say she is projecting a lot of feelings onto Doc — although he didn’t exactly deny it. One of the things I like about Wynonna this year is that I think her true feelings are often a mystery, not only to the audience but to herself. I think she clearly cares about Doc but it’ll be interesting to see what happens when she finds out he’s gone. Stay tuned. She likes him. She thinks he’s fine.

TTVJ: If she doesn’t want him I’ll volunteer, especially when he’s saying lines like, “I think you would be very pretty in blue.”

EA: That was such a sexy scene! That scene in the editing room I was like, ‘This is the sexiest scene we’ve done so far.’ I thought it was so loaded and had so much chemistry. Phew!

TTVJ: We did see that Wynonna and Dolls continued their trend of getting closer each week, but she did glimpse another side of him with his torture techniques. Does that change her feelings about him, whether personally or professionally, going forward?

EA: I’m not sure it does. I love seeing Wynonna and Dolls get closer. I love the little tidbit where she’s obviously observant of him and paying attention to him like when she said ‘I know you grew up in Arizona.’ I really love that moment. He’s obviously someone who is fascinating to her and really intriguing, even as he drives her crazy and sometimes hurts her because he’s emotionally unavailable. I think many women and men can relate to those type of people who they just want to knock down their walls and make them love you so to speak.

It’s funny because I thought that was an interesting moment when Wynonna finds Whiskey Jim. It could’ve gone one of two ways, but she was not that frazzled by it and didn’t miss a beat. It was Dolls who had more of a reaction to Wynonna torturing. He said to her ‘Don’t do that. Don’t lose yourself. Don’t become all hard.’ I thought that was a good gender reversal that he was more disturbed by her cavalier attitude towards it. She seemed fine and didn’t really miss a beat, but as we’ve seen with Wynonna a lot of things affect her after the fact.

TTVJ: Let’s discuss those scenes in the woods that made me want to find a blanket. How cold was it when you guys were shooting?

EA: It was so cold that you can’t even pretend not to put your leads in parkas and hats, even with warming stations and hot shot packets all over your body. We just had to dress them like they were in the winter because they were in the winter. Those guys are so game. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but neither Shamier or Melanie have an ounce of fat on them. [laughs] Fat is what keeps you warm, so I thought they must be really cold. That’s the price for being so fit, I imagine. As always, they are so dedicated and such troopers, so it was kind of a fun episode to film.

The person that got the short end of the stick was Gord Rand, who plays Lou. He’s a lovely, lovely person and we flew him in from Ontario. That night of the attack on the compound was definitely THE coldest night we had filming Wynonna. It was so cold that the camera stopped working. Poor Gord was wearing khaki linen pants and he was like ‘I don’t want to be all Ontario about this, but I feel like I might die.’ It was really, really genuinely cold. The kind of cold where you actually have to be careful for your cast and crew. The kind of cold where if someone wanders off they are in real trouble in no time at all. Filming in the winter is hard but it also gives you the beautiful landscapes, vistas and shots we got in that episode. That’s the trade-off.

TTVJ: WayHaught seemed to be hiding their relationship for the moment (well except for Doc). Will others soon be finding out and can you preview their reactions at all?

EA: I would say that kind of heat is hard to hide. Obviously, it’s a very new relationship. I don’t know if they’ve even put labels on what they are and what it is. They are just having fun right now with each other. Because of that, I think they are a little cautious to announce it to the world and this small town. That being said, they sure like to get frisky at the police station when no one is watching because it’s kind of dangerous and fun!

It will be interesting when Wynonna figures it out. I like that, as much as she loves both those girls — particularly Waverly — that she’s so in her own head about the reveal of her relationship with Doc to Dolls, that she was completely oblivious to what had happened.

Like I said, it’s very, very new and a precious little duckling of a relationship. We have to keep it in a little box and keep it safe. We have to keep WayHaught safe. Right now they are just trying to find out what they are, but yes, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of our gang figures out that they are together. This is very, very new for Waverly, too, remember.

TTVJ: What can we expect from Episode 11?

EA: Obviously, we have to deal with the Willa fallout. There’s something kind of joyous about the fact that these three sisters might be reunited. There is a gift to getting someone back that you thought was gone from you. That’s going to be interesting. Things are really heating up with Bobo Del Rey as he gets his players ready on the chessboard. There’s a really interesting set of female villains who are fun and have a very specific killing technique. It ends with an attack on the Homestead that is beautifully filmed and really terrifying. There’s another big reveal at the end of course!
